The 2021 Holiday Tournament and 2021 Golf schedule is in the books.  What a great day and year it was !!!

On a spectacular Day in December, we had our final and most fun event of the year.  Temps reached 75 and the golf and fun reached epic levels.  It was a total blast !!  By far, more people participated in dressing for the season than ever before.  It was great to see all the different ideas.

As far as the “dress” was concerned, we had 3 unofficial winners.  Mary Ann Brown won best dressed women for her Cute Elf get up and Dan Page wins best dressed man for a 2nd year in a row with his Redneck Santa, complete with Plummer’s Butt Crack in the back.  I’m not showing that part but trust me, it was there !!!  Our 3rd unofficial prize goes to Mike Trull for the Grinch award for dressing in all black and gray.  He did say his heart grew 10 times that day so maybe he’s savable.

We did play golf.  If you shot 61 or better, you did place in the 1-6 payments.  We had a couple of 62’s that didn’t pay.  Some very good golf considering these were legitimate ABCD players.  In fact, 67 was the highest score we had.  That’s some great playing.  Congratulations to the “Mistle Toe Misusers” team of Mike Granger, Tim Plummer, Gary Cunningham and Marcia Hardy on scoring a great 58 and winning the whole event.  They parred the 10th hole and birdied out from there to win.  Great playing.  We did have a - what we affectionately call – DFL.  This years honors go to “The Abominable Snowmen” which consisted of Rudy Psaroudis, Dave Marotta, Bryan Fisher and Marcia Bures.  They were great sports about taking the range token gift for that dubious honor.

We do have prizes in the form of gift cards to the Fort Mill Proshop for the 1-6 winning teams.  I spoke with David Gies yesterday and they are tallied and entered into your account in the Fort Mill Proshop.

Speaking of David – we want to thank him and his proshop crew for their help in this event and in all of our events.  Our great partnership with them is beyond words.  We are thankful for what we do together at the club for the enjoyment of our Association.  We also want to thank Ashley Patterson and the grounds crew for all he has done and is doing at our club.  I am beyond excited to see what he does with the projects he is doing on the golf course.  John Anderson and the food crew continue to be a blessing to our course.  The two kinds of chili we had Saturday were great.  We chose Chili because generally December 4th can be cold – but even in 75 degrees, it was perfect !!!

I want to send out a special thank you to the ladies of the Women’s Golf Association of Fort Mill.  We have combo tournaments twice a year with them and each time, they are so much fun.  Their attitude and willingness to participate and have fun in our events truly make these special.

One of the real winners was the Fort Mill Care Center.  Your generosity is amazing.  I have pics of the haul we took in. Gary Schatz and Glenn Frick delivered 602 lbs of food and paper goods to the Fort Mill Care Center.   I want to give a shout out to our friends at Springfield Golf Club as well, who also had a tournament and a food drive for the Care Center and had a sizable donation in their own right.  By the way, we also gave the proceeds from our tournament to the Care Center along with a generous donation from Duke Power who matched a 250 dollar contribution. In all we gave them $650.00 dollars along with the food.  So awesome to all of you who contributed to this !!  So thankful for all of your contributions to that extremely worthy cause.

As we close out 2021, I want to say on behalf of myself and the board and officers of the FMMGA that our thankfulness and privilege to help provide these events for our Association is such a labor of love for all of us.  We attack these with vigor, some semi-heated conversation and mostly a lot of fun, to help bring these events to you.  I love serving with each of these guys.  It’s a labor of love and some selfishness though.  We receive the benefit of the events as well.  The group of golfers at Fort Mill are second to no one !!!!  We get to play golf with you guys and smile and laugh along with all of you - and that makes this all worthwhile.  You guys are all a blessing in my life and I’m thankful.

I know that because I write these, I get associated with a lot of the credit for this but believe me, it’s a lot of work and sweat by a great crew that deserves all of our thanks.  If you get a chance, please thank the following – the officers and board members of the FMMGA – President Richard Hilton, VP Gary Schatz, Treasurer Craig Haase along with board members Steve Giampietro, Brian Groller, Rick Johnson, Jamie Lightsey, Bob Pitzer, Tim Plummer, Paul Teachout, Jackson Windell and Dave Wyatt.  Special thanks to Tony Walker who is our website guru.  He does a great job with keeping that updated and active.  Please go to WWW.FMMGA.COM to see his efforts.  Its world class !!!

We wish you all a Very Merry and Blessed Christmas along with a Safe, Fun and Healthy New Year !!!!  We are already in the works of planning our 2022 calendar.  Can’t wait to see it progress.
