About Us

Welcome to the

Fort Mill Mens Golf Association

We have over 200 active members, and we call the Fort Mill Golf Club home.

Our Association normally sponsors one event each month, and we help support junior golf, both local high school golf teams and our local care center.

The FMMGA was formed to promote fellowship between players. We all have unique backgrounds and most have moved to Fort Mill from areas near and far. The association affords the opportunity to meet and play with players you would most likely never encounter.

You're also likely to find a comfortable level of competition. Check out our calendar of events and see if one or more events sounds interesting to you.

If you're thinking of joining, feel free to contact us today for more information.

President's Message

2024 promises to be an exciting year for the Fort Mill Men's Golf Association (FMMGA). Our membership is as strong as ever which allows us to hit our goals: Golf, Fellowship & Charity. Before we get into 2024, let's look back and reflect on 2023.

The FMMGA gave over $7,000 to local highschool golf teams & care center—everyone should be commended for that!!. Additionally, the board developed a set of by-laws for our membership & board. This set of by-laws will help us move forward and strengthen the FMMGA, more to come on that!!

With the approval of the by-laws came the election of 2 new board members from our membership, Brad Hartley & Gregg Ferrell. New Board members means some longtime board members are stepping down. A special thanks to the board members that transitioned out in 2023: Jackson Windell, Jamie Lightsey & Tony Walker.

Additionally, 3 officers transitioned out as well. Richard Hilton is our immediate past president. Richard has been president for several years and did a great job guiding us through some difficult times. Richard will continue to serve on the board for the next 2 years.

Gary Schatz, our Vice President for many years, also stepped down at the end of 2023. Gary is a tireless worker with a tremendous attention to detail. Gary will still run the SSR interclub team in 2024. Gary leaves some huge shoes to fill as VP & organizer of the Member/Guest.

Lastly, Dave Sturick (Propagandist) has also stepped down. As we all know, Dave has been the voice and face of the FMMGA for many years. Dave has kept everyone informed about what is happening with the FMMGA and how he played last week for years, LOL!! In all seriousness, I want to thank all these guys for the contributions they made, making FMMGA the best men's group anywhere!

Let's look at 2024 briefly. The tournament schedule is set and can be found here on the website. The new board has started planning for several of the upcoming FMMGA tournaments already. February 6, 2024, marks our first annual Membership Meeting in The Oak Room at FMGC. The agenda is packed with a lot of useful information as we move into 2024. Our goal is transparency and to give a voice to all FMMGA members.

I know I speak for the entire board when I say, we look forward to serving our membership for the next few years. Please always feel free to come to any board member with questions or concerns. Hope to see you tonight!!!

Fort Mill Men's Golf Association Code of Conduct

We, as an association, follow a code of conduct that promotes the professional and courteous manner upon which the association was founded. Obviously, with any code, enforcement is vital. Violation of these codes can result in suspension or termination of your association membership based on review by the board.

USE OF FOUL LANGUAGE
During play, foul language should be held to a minimum. Your voice should not carry further than within your own foursome. If you have playing partners to whom this is offensive, please refrain altogether. While on the deck around the scoreboard, please refrain from the use of foul language altogether. Voices carry off the deck and can be heard for a good distance away from the clubhouse.

POSTING ALL YOUR SCORES
If we are to have fair tournaments, all scores played must be posted according to USGA rules. Accuracy of scores will also be followed. The association reserves the right to change a players handicap during our tournaments to ensure fairness. If you are not clear on what USGA rules are as to posting, please ask or refer to guidelines at the posting computer.

CHEATING DURING A TOURNAMENT
If anyone is found to deliberately cheat during a tournament, you will be asked to resign your membership permanently. If you are not sure of a rule, refer to the USGA rule book, ask your playing partner or play a second ball and get a ruling from the rules committee. Deliberate cheating is firmly against the spirit of fair competition and will not be tolerated to any degree.

ABUSE OF ALCOHOL
For most of our tournaments, we furnish beer and sodas after the tournament. We value the fellowship between players after each event. However, this benefit cannot be abused. We and the pro shop personnel reserve the right to say when you have had enough. You will simply be asked to leave. Feel free to join us at the next tournament.

GOOD SPORTSMANSHIP
The reason this association was formed was to promote fellowship between players. We all have different backgrounds and many come from different areas. The association is a great way to meet players you would not otherwise get the chance to meet. When playing in our tournaments, playing with good golf etiquette is a must. Please keep pace of play, be courteous of players lines of play and be courteous of your playing competitors. A handshake at the end of your round is strongly suggested. BE A GENTLEMAN!
