On a somewhat warm but totally windswept day in Mid-March we played the ever controversial 4-Club event.  This past Saturday to be precise !!! As stated, it was as windy of a round as I can remember for quite a while.  The flag poles were bending and not a good hair day for us guys who still have hair !!

This was a day a story was to be told.  A day that a person who won last year would validate that win with a 2nd consecutive overall championship.  It looked good for the defending champ for quite a while.  His 76 in the first flight was solidly in the overall lead and he was feeling good about himself.  Looking down the groups to come, he dodged a bullet when Blake Urbano came in and shot a 77 to be behind by one shot.  In his mind, he had one more bullet to dodge.  He saw in the very last group that Bill Hall was yet to post a score.  In his heart, he figured that was his only chance to not win left on the golf course.  Well, the time came – Bill Hall did come in and the score was posted and our defending champ had a sigh of relief and felt good that his 76 would be the overall low score of the tournament.  He had done it – he had successfully defended his crown.

In the words of Lee Corso - Not so fast my friends !!! What our champ failed to do was look at and respect the other guys in Bill's final group !!! As the defending champ was celebrating, smoking a victory cigar and yucking it up with the guys, our score keeper, Chris Teachout, pointed at a guy in the 3rd flight who had a lower score by 2 shots !!!  Oooooops !!!!

Well the defending champ and Dumb A$$ was me – Dave Sturick.  The real overall champ of the event is our long hitting friend Casey Brighton.  Casey came in with a wonderful 74 on a day that 84 was a pretty good score.  In fact in the whole event, only 4 guys in a field of 64 players broke 80 – that was myself, Casey, Blake Urbano and our boy Gary (Dean Frazier) who shot a great 77 !!  Dean's problem is that he also played in Casey's flight but he did win low net.  By the way, Casey will be moving to Denver, NC in the next few weeks.  He says he will stay in contact and play in our FMMGA events.  We really hope he does.  Casey is a real gentleman and he will be missed.  Happy for he and his family though.  It will be a good move for them.

We paid low gross and low net for each flight.  75 for first and 50 for second for each category.  Full results are attached along with some wind blown pictures.  The prizes will go to you in the form of gift cards added to your account in the proshop.  They can be used for carts, merchandise and food through the clubhouse.  Congrats to all winners.

John Anderson and his crew put out a good spread of Hamburgers and hotdogs for us for after the round.  It was delicious !! Thanks to David Gies and his staff for all they do for us at each of our events.  Great to have that team backing us.  Tim Plummer and Brian Groller were our leads from the FMMGA Board on this event and did a great job !!  Thank You !!!

Our next event is the ever popular Jamison Cup.  More details to come soon.  In the meantime, we value each of you as well.  Great group, great fellowship and great competition.  Thanks for playing and thanks for being the best part of the FMMGA !!
